1)  Elk Ridge Gunstocks are NOT "drop-in" stocks.  These are UN-finished riflestocks.  However, with some effort, even the beginner can have a stock which far surpasses factory quality, beauty, character and finish. 

2)  The rifle stocks are 95% inletted free of charge to the bolt action of your choice.  Minor wood removal with a chisel and other tools is usually required to fit to your barreled action.

3)  While they are 100% externally shaped and have clean crisp lines, they need to be sanded smooth and finished with polyurethane, oil or other finish.   The tip & cap is installed free of charge.  You may opt for white line spacers (also free).

4)  Two simple cuts are needed  -  The butt end is left long to accommodate different lengths of pull and butt pad/plate sizes.  (Unless we do the pad for you)  The fore end is left long so you may choose a blunt 90º tip, or a 45º tip (forward or backwards)  All three tip choices look good, it is just a matter of individual taste.  If you would like, we will do that for you ($10).

5)  Elk Ridge Gun Stocks comes with a 1/2" straight starter barrel channel.  3/4",7/8", 0.92", 1", 1 1/8" and 1 1/4" straight barrel channels are optional.  Very coarse sandpaper around a wooden dowel works great on the barrel channel.  We do not inlet for barrel tapers or contours.

6) Sanding, finishing and some minor inletting choices are left to you.  Take a look at the Finishing Instructions for a detailed description.  Truthfully, most guys don't follow every step in this process, but it will give you an idea of how a perfectionist would do it.  Always sand with some sort of sanding block. 

7)  Average delivery is 8-12 weeks.  These stocks are custom made to order.  You can mix ANY wood with ANY shape or style with ANY standard inletting and add ANY options.  The combinations and choices are infinite for your rifle, but please don't call or e-mail to ask us the status of you stock unless 12 weeks have passed since your order.  PLEASE NOTE  10% of our stocks pass the 12 week lead time.  Particularly left handers, 10/22's and extra large rifle stocks.
